Pre SPMU Procedure

 

Semi-Permanent Makeup Pre-Procedure Advice

  • It is advisable to wear your normal makeup on the day of your permanent cosmetic procedure as it will give a clear indication to your technician of your preferences, expectations and of what you would like to achieve.  However if you are having an eyeliner procedure please donot wear any mascara.
  • Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen before your treatment, as this can make your skin prone to bruising.
  • Do not however discontinue any medication without prior consent of your general practitioner.
  • A patch test will be required before undergoing the procedure unless waived upon request.
  • It is advisable not to drink alcohol the night before the procedure.
  • Avoid caffeine on the day of your treatment.

Eyebrow Procedures

  • Waxing should be done at least 2 days prior to treatment and electrolysis no less than 5 days before the appointment.
  • Do you have Botox? You will have to wait 2 weeks after your botox procedure before you have permanent makeup brows.
  • Moisturise brows for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. 
  • Very gently exfoliate the brow area for 1 week prior to treatment to remove any dead skin cells.

Lip Procedures

  • Any waxing or bleaching treatments should not be carried out at least 2 weeks before or following your permanent cosmetic treatment.
  • Permanent cosmetic treatments do not cause cold sores, however, if you carry the virus you will need to take to your medication or any herpes medication from the chemist such as Zovirax once a day for at least a week before your appointment, as this can help reduce the chances of an outbreak.
  • Gently exfoliate the lip area 1 week prior to treatment.  Lip scrubs can be purchased online or bought at boots or any similar high street store.
  • Apply lip balm twice daily for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Lip procedures are not always suitable for darker skin tone.  This is because the pigment can mix with the natural undertones of your skin and can change colour. 
  • If you have had cold sores or herpes simplex in the past it is important that you use medication (Aciclovir) for 2 days before and after your lip treatment. This will help prevent an outbreak, which causes discomfort and could result in scarring.

Eyeliner Procedures

  • Do not wear any eyelash extensions prior to arrival.  These must be removed at least 1 week before treatment.
  • Donot wear mascara on the day of treatment.
  • Any eyelash tinting or LVL should be carried out at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Eyelash serums must be avoided for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment and donot use again until healed 4 weeks after the topup appointment..
  • Do not wear contact lenses during or immediately after your treatment. It is advisable to rather wear glasses.
  • You may experience swelling, it is adviseable you have someone drive for you or take another form of transport.

Post Permanent Makeup Procedure

Aftercare Advice

For 2 to 10 days after treatment, the procedure area may experience the following symptoms: Flaking, tenderness, dryness, itching, swelling and redness, eyelashes may stick together and eyelids may appear red and puffy after any eyeliner procedures.

Eyebrows

Eyebrows heal between 7-14 days.  This varies for each person.  Please follow the aftercare below:

  • DO NOT get water on your eyebrows for at least 10 days or until the eyebrows are fully healed.
  • No sweaty exercise for  7 days post procedure.
  • Clean the area with sterile water am and pm days 1 and 2 after your treatment.  If you don't have sterile water, boil a kettle, allow it to cool.  Dampen a cotton pad with the water, and lightly wipe the area.
  • Apply the provided aftercare balm Once per day from Day 5 after your treatment and less than half a grain of rice, apply with a cotton bud.  This will help prevent the brows feeling itchy.
  • Do Not tweeze for at least 10 days after treatment.
  • Do Not use skincare on the treated area for at least 10 days.
  • Do Not use makeup on the treated area.
  • Do Not pick, rub or scratch the treated area.

Lips

Lips heal between 3-7 days.  This varies for each person.  Please follow the aftercare below:

  • Apply moisturising ointment several times times a day.  Just a fine layer to help ease the dryness during the healing stage.  This can also be contiuned once healed.
  • It is advisable to use a straw to drink fluids immediately after treatment.
  • Eat with a knife and fork to avoid food touching the lips (until healed).
  • Try to minimise getting the area wet for 7 days and try not to lick your lips.
  • Do Not use skincare on the treated area for at least 7 days.
  • Do Not use makeup on the treated area until fully healed.
  • Do Not pick, rub or scratch the treated area.

Eyeliner/lash enhancement

Eyes heal between 5-10 days.  This varies for each person.  Please follow the aftercare below:

  • It is advised not to use any after care treatments on the eyes. However a saline eye drops may be used if the eyes are feeling, tight, gritty or sore.
  • Do Not use skincare on the treated area for at least 7 days.
  • Do Not use makeup on the treated area.
  • Do Not pick, rub or scratch the treated area.

Important Dont's

  • Do not expose the area to any extreme temperatures for 14 days after the procedure. This includes sunbathing, tanning beds & saunas.  Make sure you use a high SPF to avoid fading after this time.
  • Do not use makeup  on the treated area until fully healed.
  • Do not use any face creams, exfoliators, or harsh cleansers on your brows/eyes/lips (depending on procedure) during the healing process.
  • VERY IMPORTANT - Do Not Pick, scratch, or rub the area or the colour will heal unevenly or cause scarring and infection.

Please Note:

  • The colour will be up to 50% darker straight after the treatment. It will fade after 10 days (timing varies depending on the area treated) and the true colour will not be visible until the area has completely healed and a time of up to 4 weeks has passed.
  • In order to keep your permanent makeup in perfect condition, colour boost appointments are recommended every 9 to 18 months, timing will vary for each individual.
  • If you are planning an MRI scan, chemical peel or any similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had permanent cosmetics.
  • Laser hair removal can fade and change the shade of your lip or brow procedure, always advise the laser technician that you have had a permanent makeup procedure.
  • Please remember the area may feel tender for a few days after the procedure.
  • Normal activity can be resumed immediately, but no heavy exercise such as aerobics, heavy weightlifting, swimming, etc for 7 days post procedure.
  • Your second (topup) appointment should be booked at the end of your first visit; it is after this treatment your true results will be visible.

How to keep your colour looking Fresh and prevent premature fading:

  • Avoid sunlight and use a high factor over the brows or treated area.  Sunlight will fade your semi permanent makeup much quicker.
  • Avoid AHA's, Glycolic acid, Lactic acid Salycilic acid and Retinols on the treated area.
  • Don't exfoliate the treated area.  Unless told otherwise (eg 1 week prior to procedure)
  • Keep the treated area moisturised (eg brows or lips depending on the area treated).
